site specific trick
by graciela taquini, show's curator

With a hancrafted device, a simple slide projector, almost an antiquity, Martin Bonadeo cheats reality to impose his own world. He always works for a specific site, creating inspired by a building, a wall, a door, or other specific space. If Barroque's painters seem to open the ceilings to the heavens to make saint's elevations easier, Martin introduces a contradiction in things that are familiar to us. In this way he asks again and again what is art.

tricky ocean
by graciela taquini

This is the third edition of TRAMPAS (cheatings) project, an itinerant show around the simulation of the signifier, composed by pieces that can be placed between a secret: what is and doesn't seem like and a lie: what isn't but seems like. This selection of twenty pieces doesn't pretend to illustrate a thematic line, it is born out of artistic proposals that are playing with reality, truth or existence status. The inspiration for it's name is the "trompe l'oeil", The baroque illusionist trick that invaded art theory and practice some time ago. These tricks are sometimes literal, other metaphorical, visual or mental. If the drill lacks of referent, it is presented here immersed in a conscious game and controlled by hidden things, by twists, by irony, by subjacent texts, where reversibility is more important than mimesis. The purpose of the confrontation and dialogue between these contemporary pieces is artistic, but at the same time ideological, specially in an historic moment where Argentina and the world lack of certain things, where ambiguity disturbs. There is an attempt to produce a kind of pointing that shows "the naked king" and reveals that sometimes being and pretending may be ontologically the same. The truth builds itself from the subject that reads it, any perception is tied to mediations, any gaze's is dictatorial or based in a pre juice. This doesn't work as a settlement, but more like an interrogation mark from theory and also from the art practice in an Argentina at the same time cheat and cheater.

This independent and self-made project started in Buenos Aires's Alianza Francesa in July 2001 showing the work of ten artists and continued in the showroom of Montevideo's government house in May 2002 with twenty five creators form Plate river. This time the show is at Villa Victoria in Mar del Plata from December 7 to December 26, 2002. The list of artists: Gustavo Romano, Hernán Marina, Mara Facchin, Ivan Calmet, Marcello Mortarotti, Andrea Nacach, Marta Cali y Oscar Carballo (invited to the first show) Dino Bruzzone, Leonel Luna, Alicia Herrero, Augusto Zanela, Horacio Zabala, Nacho lasparra, Irene Banchero (who showed in Montevideo), Daniel Ontiveros and Daniel Joglar, from Mar del Plata, Paula Toto Blakle, Esteban Alvarez and Martin Bonadeo who is going to develop a piece specially designed for the emblematic space of Victoria Ocampo's house.
